A Place to pause, understand & explore

Sometimes understanding why we feel, think or behave the way we do can be the beginning of change. This space offers simple, honest information about healing, trauma, emotions, the body and the patterns we carry through life. You don't need to have all the answers. Just start where you are, take what feels useful, and allow yourself to become curious about what may be happening underneath the surface.

Holistic counselling looks at the whole person, including your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, experiences, beliefs and behaviours.

At Dragonfly Blue, this is explored through Root Cause Therapy (RCT), gently looking beneath the reactions, fears and patterns you experience today.

Sometimes understanding something intellectually isn't enough. Exploring what sits underneath can help create a deeper shift.

what is holistic counselling?

the mind-body connection

Our minds and bodies are closely connected.

Stress can show up as tense shoulders, a racing heart or an unsettled stomach. Emotional experiences can affect us physically, sometimes before we even understand what we're feeling.

Learning to notice these signals can be an important part of understanding yourself.

Blooming Garden

Inner child work explores the younger parts of ourselves that may still carry experiences, emotions, beliefs or unmet needs from childhood.

What we learnt growing up can continue to influence our relationships, confidence, boundaries and behaviours.

This isn't about blaming the past. It's about understanding what happened and recognising what you may still be carrying.

inner child work

Trauma isn't always one huge event. Sometimes it is what happened, and sometimes it is what didn't happen.

It can come from experiences such as neglect, abuse, loss, rejection, instability or relationships where we felt unsafe, unseen or powerless.

You may notice things like:

  • Constant worrying

  • People-pleasing

  • Difficulty trusting

  • Avoiding conflict

  • Feeling overwhelmed

  • Repeating relationship patterns

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself

These responses don't mean something is wrong with you. Often, they are ways your system has learnt to protect you.

understanding trauma

your nervous system

Your nervous system is constantly responding to whether you feel safe or threatened.

After difficult or stressful experiences, it can become accustomed to being on alert. You may feel constantly "on", struggle to relax, overthink, become overwhelmed, or shut down when things feel too much.

Understanding these responses can help you recognise that your body may simply be trying to protect you.

We don't just think emotions. We experience them throughout our bodies.

Fear might feel like a tight chest. Anxiety might feel like butterflies or a racing heart. Sadness can feel heavy.

Try asking yourself:

  • What am I feeling?

  • Where do I feel it in my body?

  • What happens when I simply notice it?

You don't have to fix anything. Just notice.

emotions & the body

Hand Touching Flowers

We can inherit much more than eye colour and surnames. We can learn beliefs, behaviours and ways of relating from the people and environments we grow up around.

Patterns can travel through generations, but that doesn't mean you are destined to repeat them.

Awareness gives you the opportunity to understand them and choose what continues with you.

generational patterns

a simple grounding practise

When things feel overwhelming:

  • Stop.

  • Take a slow breath.

  • Notice your feet on the floor.

  • Name five things you can see.

  • Notice three things you can hear.

Ask yourself:

"What do I need right now?"

You don't have to act on the answer immediately. Just listen.

You don't need to have everything figured out, know where your problem started, or share everything in your first session.

RCT explores what may sit underneath the reactions, beliefs, fears and patterns you're experiencing today.

RCT is not hypnosis. You remain aware and in control throughout the process.

Everyone experiences the process differently. For some, it may be emotional. For others, it may bring moments of clarity and understanding.

Your journey is yours.

what to expect from root-cause-therapy?

Beach And Ocean

a little something to try

Ask yourself:

"What is something I keep doing, feeling or experiencing that I don't understand?"

Write it down without trying to solve it.

Then ask:

"If this reaction could speak, what would it want me to know?"

There is no right or wrong answer.

a few things worth exploring

You don't need to read everything about healing to heal.

One book, podcast, conversation or moment of self-awareness can open a door.

As the Dragonfly Blue resource library grows, I'll share a small collection of books, podcasts, exercises and resources I genuinely believe may be helpful.

Quality over quantity.

Calm Ocean Scene

and finally...

You don't have to wait until you're completely overwhelmed to reach out.

You don't need the perfect words, or even to know exactly what's wrong.

Sometimes all you know is:

"I don't want to keep doing this."

That can be enough of a starting point.

Healing doesn't mean becoming someone completely different.

Sometimes it means coming back to the person you were underneath everything you learnt you had to be.
